Jackson Street Apartments
Jackson Street
During the 1920’s Jackson Street became known as the hotbed of jazz in the Pacific Northwest. It was a place for people from all backgrounds and walks of life to come together around music and good times. Over the years, creators, activists, and newcomers to the city have lived and worked in the Central District with a spirit of comradery and community that is alive and well in the area today. For Jackson Street, we wanted to encourage potential residents to be a part of that evolving story.

Naming & Brand Story
We began by learning more about the jazz history of the area. Thanks to our research, we found some incredible articles and archival photography in the archives of the Black Heritage Society and MOHAI. In many ways, this set the stage for wanting to name the building Jackson Street. It has such an iconic history, why not keep it simple and celebrate its roots. The client and the interior design team agreed and licensed some of the archival imagery to go into the vintage modern gallery wall in the lobby pulling the entire story together.
Logo Development
A logo that encompasses the history of the street while giving room for the stories of the future is always a rewarding logo to showcase. Jackson Street has so much history – the speakeasies, the jazz, the community – we incorporated all of that into our logo development. With so many things to be inspired by, we narrowed in on the speakeasies and the prohibition era and began designing a logo that could feature the vintage aspect of the brand and the modern. The typeface of this logo reflects that of a whiskey label or something you would get from a printing press. The subtle notches in each letter and the arch of the logo lockup give it that flare while leaving room for the story to unfold.

Marketing Collateral
With Jackson Street we had a unique opportunity to highlight exceptional local restaurants and businesses in the building. We took our retro inspired look and feel and translated it into modern design to bring the speakeasy vibes to our brochures, a-boards, billboards, and even our specially made house whiskey move-in gifts.

Direct Mail & Playlist
With the challenges facing us around the COVID-19 pandemic, we needed to re-tool our foot game. Instead of relying on traditional mechanisms, we tapped into the musical brand story and created a direct mail piece to connect to people at home and bring some much-needed positive energy into their worlds. We partnered with a local DJ from the Central District @Deejayhershe to create a retro-inspired Summer Swing playlist to celebrate the musical spirit of the area. It was the perfect way to combine the musical theme, build connection, and bring some good energy to the table.
Photography
We enhanced the brand of Jackson Street by fully encapsulating the personality and function of the building through photography. We worked to highlight the property in its architectural and functional form while also bringing in a lifestyle and personable aspect to each photo. The vignettes we captured allow viewers to escape in that very cozy chair with a plant and coffee stand beside it while the architectural photos let you decide how you’d want to make this space you’re next home.
