At the corner of Seattle’s 9th Avenue and Thomas Street, you’ll find South Lake Union’s hottest hub for art, food, and culture.
Designed by Olson Kundig Architects and built by Sellen Construction, the aptly named 9th & Thomas is the neighborhood’s center for community and activity, and the team at Blanton Turner couldn’t have been more thrilled to be a part of its journey.
From driving the building’s commission to overseeing its warranties, we had the absolute pleasure of being involved from the early stages of development. We partnered with the building owner’s asset managers and developers to provide insight where we could and offer help where available. We found ourselves involved in lease administration tasks with three retailers and the sole office user, Amazon. We delivered guidance in tenant improvement build-outs and mitigated the substantially different needs of multiple small business owners and a corporate powerhouse’s higher-up ranks. To do so, we relied on our creativity, passion, and desire to problem-solve.
Our crafty team is forever on the lookout for more we can do. We don’t stop at basics, and we never turn down a source of inspiration. In fact, our team dreamed up a plan of execution for this project after watching a show on Netflix.
The liveliest part was still to come, of course, as we ensured a space that would welcome DJs and live musicians, along with art installations, floral displays, and interactive experiences — plus, a few epic parties. While we love the buildings we bring to life, at the end of the day, what would they be without the people to fill them?
